PULP’S ‘STAR WARS’ SCENE BECOMES AN INTERNET SENSATION
www.pulpthemovie.com
London, United Kingdom, 22 February 2012 – Exactly one week ago, the filmmakers behind Pulp, a sensational new movie comedy set in the world of comic books, released a trailer and controversial exclusive scene on YouTube. The scene, which gives a generation of Star Wars naysayers a voice in the form of despicable cop, Tyler Jake, has become an online sensation and has generated over 300,000 views – a record figure for a low-budget independent film.
You can view the trailer and exclusive scene here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGE0q_bQN4M
In the scene, Tyler goes head-to-head with ‘Rock God’ comic book artist, Rick Bean, in an encounter that ends with only one of them standing. Pulp’s ‘Star Wars’ scene has had real-world audiences applauding and cheering, and online viewers are responding the same way.
Adam Hamdy, co-director of Pulp, said, “The clip we released was pretty controversial. It contains foul language and even fouler views on Star Wars. It’s the geek world equivalent of a knife fight and is really not for the faint-hearted.”
Independently financed, Pulp is building up a global following and a real head of steam. Recently nominated for the London Comedy Film Festival Discovery Award, Pulp, is a comedy feature film set in the irreverent world of comic book publishing.
Phil Bland, producer of Pulp said, “We recently screened Pulp to an audience of 1,200 people at the annual SFX Weekender and the reaction to the film was brilliant. This exclusive scene was our way of thanking everyone involved in making Pulp a success and giving our online audience a taste of what Pulp is all about.”
Pulp is a homage to movies and comic books and will be released soon. If you’d like to see more of Pulp, tweet, like, link, say what you think and help spread the word of Pulp. It’s more than a movie, it’s a way of life.
Don’t miss the sensational exclusive scene that has Star Wars lovers and haters buzzing. Trailer and Exclusive Scene available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGE0q_bQN4M

A special message from Reading With Pictures!

Dear Friends of Reading With Pictures,
Coming March 14—Reading With Pictures Returns to Kickstarter!
Our campaign is looking to fund four gamechanging educational comic projects, and we want you (That’s right, YOU!) to be a part of it. Our first Kickstarter campaign funded the production of the RWP Anthology, which was nominated for two Harvey Awards and has become a fixture in classrooms nationwide. It also provided the start-up capital to get the fledgling Reading With Pictures organization off the ground.
I’d say we did pretty good, but this time, “pretty good” isn’t nearly good enough. We’re taking things to a whole new level, and we need your help to do it. Our goal is to raise at least $75,000 to produce the following:
1. The Graphic Textbook, a comic-based textbook that gives students the high-quality content they want and teachers the standards-based content they need.
2. Education Evolution, a high-end art book celebrating education by some of comicdom’s finest talents.
3. Open Source Comics, an ever-expanding collection of educational comics made available to students, educators and librarians everywhere under the Creative Commons license.
4. RWP 2.0, the evolution of the Reading With Pictures website into a vast resource hub for all things related to comics in the classroom including searchable databases for research papers/course materials, book reviews and recommended reading lists, forums for guided discussions and much more!
For more details on our projects, including the guidelines for art and story submissions, click here. To find out how you can make tax deductible contributions to our Kickstarter effort by offering rewards like original art, merchandise and one-of-a-kind fan experiences that appeal to our geekophilic core audience, click here.
We can’t do this without you! Please respond by no later than February 20 to join the cause and help us eliminate illiteracy once and for all!
Sincerely,
Josh Elder

[GOOD CAUSE PRESS] Viper Comics Fan: Shave Head, Save The World!

A couple of days ago, Viper Comics learned that one of their readers, Zachary M., an eight-year-old, was raising money for the St. Baldrick’s Charity by volunteering to have his head shaved.
As they say on their website, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.
webcomic ‘Cemetery Street.’ When he asked us to help get the word out about his attempt to raise some money, we were completely onboard,” said Jessie Garza, Viper Comics’ President. “You hear all the time about how selfish kids are these days. So when Zachary asked us to help spread the word, we jumped at the chance. We deal with heroes all the time in comicbooks, it’s cool to find someone who takes that on board and tries to get out there and do something good for others. Especially an eight-year-old.”Want to learn more about Viper Comics? Visit www.vipercomics.com

HOT DEATH, COLD SPACE, AND A WHOLE LOT OF ROCK AND ROLL
Free Mars Web Comic in print July 2012 from Ape Entertainment
(San Diego, CA-January 19, 2012) Ape Entertainment announced today that they have become ownership partners in the Free Mars property, currently a web comic with a print OGN releasing in July 2012. Free Mars is a gritty sci-fi rock opera set against the backdrop of a dystopian Mars colony in the year 2339. As civil war looms on the Red Planet, the Revolution finds an unlikely symbol in the form of a punk band. The group quickly discovers, however, that their new fame comes at a price. Created and written by David Pauwels with art from Nicolas Giacondino, the graphic novel will contain the first year of web comics that started in July 2010. Ape Entertainment has helped publish many creator owned projects but felt strongly enough about this project to help finance it.
Brent Erwin COO of Ape Entertainment explained “We are so lucky to work with so many great creators but this concept had the right mix of timeliness and unique concept. Music as such an escape that it’s viewed almost like drugs. How many of us would DIE without our ipod or cell phone? Themes of oppression and repression; it might be set in 2339 but there are many similarities to today’s society.” A digital version of the book will be available through the Comics+ app from Iverse Media.
